We are seeking a skilled Paintings Conservator to work collaboratively across museum departments to undertake the conservation and preparation of paintings for exhibition, loan and storage. The conservation program is carried out in accordance with legislative obligations, institutional objectives and in line with national museum standards and the Australian Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Materials Code of Ethics and Code of Practice.

Selection Criteria 1: Tertiary qualification in materials conservation and three years continuous paintings conservation experience, OR at least 5 years’ paintings conservation experience working under the supervision of an experienced, qualified conservator at a museum, art gallery or commercial practice.*

Selection Criteria 2: Demonstrated extensive experience in paintings conservation including assessments, treatments exhibition preparation from museum and gallery collections.*

Selection Criteria 3: Ability to provide advice and expertise in current paintings conservation practice, including museum climatology, disaster planning and recovery, collection management, environmental monitoring, integrated pest management, collection handling, storage and display.*

Selection Criteria 4: Proven ability to work efficiently and harmoniously in a multi-disciplinary team with a range of professional, technical and administrative staff to achieve agreed objectives, provide support and collaborate with team members and key stakeholders on complex projects.*

Selection Criteria 5: Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills at institutional, government and community levels, including a demonstrated ability to prepare high quality documentation and reports, and respond to internal and external enquiries.*

Selection Criteria 6: High level knowledge of both national and international current conservation principles, ethics and practices as identified in the Australian Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Materials (AICCM) Code of Ethics and its international counterparts.*

Selection Criteria 7: Strong organisational skills to self-manage workload across concurrent projects, prioritising and completing tasks within scheduled timeframes.*

Selection Criteria 8: Proven ability in the use of Collections Management Systems to document treatment, movements and records.*

Selection Criteria 9: Understanding and knowledge of WHS standards and their implementation in relation to safe practices for the treatment, movement, installation and storage of collections, lifting and carrying objects, climbing ladders and use of tools.*

Desirable Criteria 1: Membership of the Australian Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Materials (AICCM)

Desirable Criteria 2: Experience working with culturally sensitive material

Desirable Criteria 3: Experience with EMu collection management software
