The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) is seeking a dedicated Technical Officer Natural Sciences to support the implementation of our collections program. In this role you will help care for, document, and connect science with the community. From fieldwork in remote areas to supporting research, public programs, and loans, this role presents an exciting opportunity.

Selection Criteria 1: Diploma, Certificate or undergraduate bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline or equivalent experience.*

Selection Criteria 2: Knowledge of museum collection management standards and practices; understanding of the classification and identification of organisms; and demonstrated ability to undertake the collection, processing and handling of zoological, geological and fossil specimens.*

Selection Criteria 3: Excellent organisational skills, with proven ability to work as part of a small team with minimal supervision.*

Selection Criteria 4: Excellent computer skills, including experience in the use of spreadsheets and database systems and experience in performing accurate data recording, entry and manipulation.*

Selection Criteria 5: An ability to interact effectively with people of different cultures and beliefs.*

Selection Criteria 6: Current NT Driver’s licence or ability to acquire.*

Selection Criteria 7: Current Ochre card or ability to acquire.*

Selection Criteria 8: Understanding of the principles of Work Health & Safety and how these relate to safe laboratory practices and field operations.*

Desirable Criteria 1: Experience in working in remote locations, often under difficult environmental conditions.

Desirable Criteria 2: Experience and expertise in terrestrial vertebrate collections.

Desirable Criteria 3: Possession of other relevant qualifications or knowledge (e.g. Senior First Aid, Chemwatch, manual 4WD experience).
