Have you ever considered what it might be like to work for an organisation where they hide miniature Lego characters every December for our visitors to find, as they explore the wonders of Art, Science, History and Cultural Programs?  This will be one of the many fascinating and quirky happenings if you join The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT).  We are the Northern Territory’s premier cultural and scientific institution, with over 300,000 visitors each year, we are known for our collections and expertise in Aboriginal cultures, natural sciences, histories, and arts across Northern and Central Australia and our neighbours to the north. 

About the Role

Working in a small team the Human Resources Officer assists to deliver administrative and operational people practices that enhance the employee experience across our MAGNT sites.

You will assist people leaders to implement effective people practices across the Employment Lifecycle, initially with a focus on Payroll, People Analytics, Remuneration & Benefits and Worker Health & Safety.    There will also be the need to get involved in other components of the employment life cycle, for example, Recruitment when needed.

This is an evolving role and team, so we need someone who can flex with the needs of MAGNT, a safe pair of hands who can deliver on the day-to-day people needs, and who is keen to learn and contribute more as we learn and evolve.

What we offer

We are paying a market competitive base salary plus super, with free on-site staff parking.

Located on beautiful Larrakia Country at Bullocky Point, set in a scenic location overlooking the Arafura Sea, our purpose-built museum and art gallery, with an on-site café and gift shop, both offering staff discounts. 

Relocation expenses will be on offer if the preferred candidate is intrastate/interstate.

Timeframes

This is a maternity leave backfill with a desired mid-February 2026 start date, up to the end of October 2026.  So time is of the essence.

The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) is the Northern Territory’s premier cultural organisation.

Our principal facility since 1981 is on Larrakia Land at Bullocky Point in Darwin, home to internationally renowned cultural and scientific collections and research and exhibition programs.
