Join the team at MAGNT!

Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) is seeking an Administration Officer to join our Aboriginal Heritage team — a role suited to someone who is steady under pressure, thinks ahead, and understands that the details matter, especially when the work carries deep cultural, historical and community significance.

This position supports the Head of Aboriginal Heritage and plays a central role in the coordination, care and governance of Aboriginal cultural heritage, including repatriation and Ancestral Remains. The work is meaningful, sometimes complex, and always important.

If you are someone who takes pride in doing things well, understands the realities of working across remote Northern Territory contexts, and can confidently advocate within MAGNT to ensure Aboriginal Heritage work is respected and prioritised — we would like to hear from you.

Why join MAGNT Aboriginal Heritage?

  • Work alongside an experienced, diverse Aboriginal team with deep cultural knowledge and strong community connections
  • Learn, contribute and grow in a culturally rich environment where your skills are valued
  • Be part of work that matters deeply to families and communities across the Northern Territory
  • Build your capability in governance, repatriation processes and cultural heritage administration

This is a role for someone who understands that repatriation and care of cultural material and Ancestral Remains is not just administrative — it is serious, sensitive and relational work.

About the role

As Administration Officer, Aboriginal Heritage, you will be the trusted backbone of the team. You will support the Head of Aboriginal Heritage, coordinate key processes, and ensure the smooth running of advisory groups and working groups, including:

  • Indigenous Cultural Advisory Authority (ICAA)
  • Repatriation Working Group
  • Internal Aboriginal Heritage working groups and committees across other departments.

You will be relied upon to anticipate needs, manage competing priorities, track actions and deadlines, and ensure that culturally sensitive work is handled with care, accuracy and respect.
